Cluny Solar Farm

Lessons Learned

GP JOULE Canada Corp. proposes to construct and operate a new 5 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Wheatland County, an estimated 1.5 km west of the town of Cluny. GP JOULE started the development of the project in 2016 by presenting the project to Wheatland County during a public council meeting. Since then GP JOULE continued the development according to the current regulatory framework of the Alberta Utilities Commission. The project site was selected to minimize the impact on the environment and the community as much as possible. If all permits are received as expected the project could be in operation as early as fall 2017. As the Province of Alberta is still working on different incentive and procurement programs for renewable energy the project might not be connected until 2018 however.
