Alberta Community Solar Guide

Organizing and Owning Community Solar PV Projects

PUBLICATION - Nov. 28, 2017 - By Kabir Nadkarni, Sara Hastings-Simon

"Solar energy systems in the form of modules installed on a single home or business, or as row upon row of panels in a public utility, are not the only options for those interested in solar electricity generation.

Community solar projects enable community members to share a partial stake in owning, leasing, or using electricity from a solar PV array. Community solar projects can be more financially and physically accessible than traditional rooftop installations, and offer economies of scale to compete with retail electricity prices.

There is a lot to consider when comprehensively planning a community solar project. This guide is for Albertans who want to, and renewable energy developers who can use it as an awareness tool when working with communities to develop such projects."
