Class Description

What is the path to energy independence for the Alberta homeowner?  What actually works in our climate?  How can we reduce our footprint and be part of the solution? Is a solar system practical for me? Which efficiency improvements have the best payback?

These and other questions will be addressed in this overview of renewable energy options.  Students will learn of practical things that can be done now.  Meters will be made available to measure the consumption of household appliances. Solar equipment will be demonstrated. The class will explore the world of generating electricity from solar and wind, solar water heating for homes, hot tubs and pools, as well as, passive solar building design.  Green transportation options will be covered.  Students will receive a list of the best websites, local resources, and a Grant MacEwan College certificate of completion. The course will be taught by Rob Harlan with additional guest instructors Andy Smith of Sol North Engineering, Harold Verburg of Trimline Design Centre and Stephani Carter of EcoAmmo.
